Boulder Maternity Photographer | An Outdoor Winter Session

Some maternity sessions are just perfect. Photographers, you know what I am talking about. They are the sessions that just flow so easily, it’s almost embarrassing to say that they require little work from me. Sure, I led the session, guiding them to particular spots and deciding how to frame my images by using different viewpoints and visual elements but they were the ones to bring the love and connection. I didn't have to ask for it. I didn't have to use dedicated prompts to get them to snuggle. I just had to talk to them and let them explore this space together.

We drove up to Gross Reservoir just outside Boulder, CO late afternoon on a lazy Sunday, it's a bit of drive if you're coming from Denver, but so worth it for the magnificent views. The sunlight was warm and low, just getting ready to drop behind the mountains. It was a peaceful location on this day, there weren't more than a few hikers. We actually saw more elk than humans, which was magical!

When expecting mothers contact me for their maternity session, we always spend a good amount of time talking about their journey to motherhood, their relationship with their partner, their joys and fears of the pregnancy and the shift in life they are preparing for. It’s really quite a beautiful process to get to know someone so intimately and then capture such meaningful imagery for them.

Getting to really know my clients is one of the most important details that go into the work I do. When we develop rapport, trust and open communication the possibilities of what we can create together are endless. I want you to feel both physically seen and emotionally understood. It’s a true gift to have images of yourself and it’s not vain to want to love yourself in imagery. I think it’s pure curiosity about who we actually are. I've seen so many things about myself and the connections I have with those that I love in images that have been taken of me. So, that's what I do; I create portraits that allow for you to feel seen in your truth.

I’d love to hear all about your journey to motherhood and in return be able to offer you tangible evidence of this time in your life, the memories you give your children one day.
